What are OET Writing tasks?
OET Writing tasks on Write & Improve are designed for healthcare professionals preparing for the OET Test. These tasks simulate real-life healthcare scenarios, where you will write a letter—such as a referral, discharge, or transfer letter—based on a set of case notes or documentation. The tasks test your ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in a healthcare setting.
Can I practise OET Writing on Write & Improve?
Yes, Write & Improve offers two official OET Writing tasks for each OET profession in the W&I for Healthcare (OET) workbook. You can try tasks from any profession to practise a range of scenarios in timed conditions and receive instant feedback on your English writing proficiency. These tasks can help to improve writing ability on computer and enhance your familiarity with the writing portion of the OET Test.
Does Write & Improve give OET scores?
No. Write & Improve provides guidance on general English writing, as well as an estimated CEFR band rather than OET-specific scores. OET Writing is assessed by human markers using OET’s assessment criteria, with scores ranging from 0 to 500. OET Writing tasks on Write & Improve should be used in conjunction with official OET preparation materials and the OET Writing criteria on oet.com.
What do I need to know before using Write & Improve for OET Writing tasks?
Feedback is based on general English writing, not healthcare-specific communication.
The tool may flag correct phrases as errors in medical writing—double-check flagged feedback against your own technical knowledge.
Mistakes are part of the learning process; use feedback to refine grammar, vocabulary, and structure.
The CEFR band estimate reflects general English proficiency and is not a predictor of your OET Writing score.
Write & Improve is a valuable tool to enhance your general writing skills. Use it as part of your test preparation in addition to other official OET materials.
